South Korean Beef Protests Turn Violent
I think that the South Korean beef protests are a little bit silly. From what I’ve read from numerous articles on BBC and what I’ve heard by Korean officials, US beef is not the real reason why the people are protesting. The protesting is happening because people want to come together, to feel like they are one and on the same team. Instead of being unhappy with beef, they’re unhappy with their current government and president.
I’m unhappy to see that the protests have turned violent. Since I’m going to be in Seoul within a month and working right at the heart of where the protests are taking place, I’m beginning to fear for my safety. Of course, I will do my best to avoid the protests as best as possible, but I’m not ruling out the possibility that I could be harassed. Seeing that the protests have now turned violent only solidifies my feelings that I may experience a form of harassment.
Although I do not approve, I will avoid the protests and respect their right to protest. Being an American and in their country, I don’t have any other choice.

Hello, I’d be happy to exchange.
On a personal safety note keep in mind the following. Stay away from the larger protests, most of which happen in the parks away from residential and business places. Don’t worry to much about safety as in all honesty the police and the people go out of their way to make sure foreigner are not involved or harmed. You should be fine.
Protesting and demo (Koreans call it demo) is pretty common here. I’ve seen the riot police leave the station on many an occasion but actual rioting does not happen as often as it seems.
The protests, particularly in Seoul, have become more violent however I don’t think that will effect your general safety here.
